Betty Kathryn Haver, age 87, of Centerville, IA, passed away on Friday September 8, 2017, in Des Moines IA.
Betty was born on December 27, 1929, to Glen and Louise (Shulski) Wakefield in Mystic IA. She graduated from Mystic High School in 1947 and Centerville Junior College in 1949.
Following graduation, Betty started her teaching career in Mystic and taught 3rd grade for 7 years. On June 22, 1955, she married Edward Haver in Moravia IA. Betty and Ed made their home on their farm west of Moravia for the next 35 years. Betty returned to teaching in 1967. She taught 2nd grade in Moravia for the next 23 years. After Ed’s passing in 1991, Betty moved to Moravia. She resided there until moving to the Homestead in Centerville IA in November of 2010.
In her spare time Betty enjoyed playing the keyboard and accordion, reading, and attending dances. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family and hosting family gatherings.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Julie Seals and grandchildren Shannon (Don) Self, Michael (Melanie) Seals, and Ashley (Jason) Snow all of Moravia IA and granddaughter Kriston Seals of Rochester MN. She was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, and Jaime Self, Matthew and Carson Seals, and Haley, Makayla, and Jacey Snow. Also surviving are brother Richard (Marianne) Wakefield of Centerville IA, sister Carole (Carl) Patterson of Omaha NE, and sister-in-law Phyllis Hiner of Rock Island IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. A visitation will take place on Monday, September 11, 2017, at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia from 12-7pm, with the family present from 5-7pm. A memorial has been established to the Moravia Public Library and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St, Centerville, IA, 52544.
