Carl E. Miller

Carl Edward Miller of Unionville, Iowa passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on January 17th, 2018.

Carl was born on June 7th, 1931 to Claudius (Ladd) and Mamie (Swaim) Miller. He graduated from Unionville High School. On May 5th, 1951 in Kirksville, Missouri, Carl was united in marriage to Carol Sue Morrow. Later Carl and Carol welcomed four children; Carla, Craig, Claudia and Carson.

Carl was a lifelong crop and horse/cattle farmer. He was a horse enthusiast, a member of the American Paint & Quarter Horse Associations. He was especially fond of paint horses and looked forward to every Spring when his mares foaled. Up until his passing Carl was a devoted farmer and animal lover.

Carl served on the Soil and Conservation board and in 2008 he received the State Outstanding Commissioner award. During his lifetime he had donated more than sixteen gallons of blood. Carl and Carol enjoyed attending horse sales, going out for dinner on Saturday nights and treasured coffee time around the table with family and friends. In their younger years they went dancing, attended local fairs and hosted family gatherings. He was a kind and humble man, never missing the opportunity to meet and visit with a stranger.

Carl is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, his children: Carla Pagdilao (June), Craig Miller (Cheryl Gray), Claudia Purdum (Rod), Carson Miller; seven grandchildren: Ryan Purdum (Michelle), Chad Miller (Cheryl), Courtney Acosta (Mizraim), Jamie Henkle (Jared), Rachel Seddon (Charles), Keisha Pagdilao (Jordan), Tasha Pagdilao and eight great-grandchildren: Matt and Erika Miller, Chandler and Veyda Matos, Hudson Acosta, Dominic and Dylan Purdum and Briggs Seddon.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob Miller.

Per Carl's wishes, cremation has been accorded.  There are no scheduled services at this time.  Lange Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted in caring for Carl's family.  Memorials have been established to the Unionville American Legion, Post #407, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
