Patrick Merval McKee, age 65, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Pat was born on April 23, 1952 in Wayne County, Iowa, the son of Merval K. and Elaine C. (Calif) McKee. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1971. Pat furthered his education at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, obtaining an LPN degree.
Pat married Judy DeVore and to this union of marriage, three children were born, Chira, Stephanie, and Kristi. The couple later divorced.
He dedicated his working life to the field of nursing, a career that expanded twenty five years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He first worked at the Seymour Care Center as the director of nurses. He subsequently accepted a nursing position in Kirksville, Missouri, at KCOM. Pat's most recent nursing job was in respiratory therapy at St. Joseph's Hospital in Centerville.
Pat was a long-time member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of 4th degree knight. Through many years of hard work and dedication with the Knights of Columbus, Pat once held the honorable title, Grand Knight. Furthermore, Pat helped manage the Knights of Columbus Hall in Centerville.
In the recent past, as a local business owner in the Centerville community, Pat was a member of the Centerville Chamber of Commerce.
Pat also possessed many hobbies, including cooking and gardening. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children, Chira McKee of Centerville, Stephanie (Michael) Sargent of Bellevue, Washington, and Kristi (Ben) Ritter of Centerville; six grandchildren, Sharyl Woollums of Centerville, Sidney McKee-Sargent of Bellevue, Washington, Connor McKee-Sargent of Bellevue, Washington, Abigail McKee-Sargent of Bellevue, Washington, Shelbi Ritter of Centerville, and Peyton Ritter of Centerville; a close family friend, Dwight Buress of Brashear, Missouri; as well as several other family members and many dear friends.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal and paternal grandparents; a special friend, Becky Valentine; and numerous other family members.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Monday, August 21, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Shriver Cemetery, near Corydon, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 4-6 PM. A Rosary will be conducted in Pat's honor at 3:30 PM at Lange Funeral Home.
