Robert George Seddon

Robert George Seddon, age 92 of Cincinnati, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Homestead of Centerville.

Robert was born on October 11, 1924 in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Catherine (Young) Seddon.  He graduated from Mystic High School. After high school, he proudly served his country as a bombardier in the Army Air Corpduring WWII from July 1, 1944 to September 16, 1945.  After his honorable discharge, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and began his teaching career.  Later he continued his education at Drake University and Northeast Missouri State University, earning his Master's Degree in School Administration.His work as an educator took him to many communities in and around Iowa. He taught in Sargent Bluffs, Iowa, Troy, Iowa, Cincinnati, Iowa, Memphis, Missouri, Unionville, Missouri, but the majority of his career he worked for Centerville Schools as both an administrator and as an instructor.

Robert was united in marriage to Norma Jean Harrison on September 2, 1945 in Cincinnati, Iowa. Theirs was a beautiful love story. Each completed the other. They were married for 65 years.  From this union, five children were born, Jim, John, Tom,Mary and Nancy.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, canoeing, and traveling in retirement. He was also the consummate storyteller as well as a carpenter.Robert especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was also a former board member of the Appanoose County Conservation. 

Robert is survived by his sons; John (Marcia) Seddon of Cincinnati, Iowa, Tom (Karen) Seddon of rural Moulton, Iowa, daughters, Mary Ann (Terry) Sivetts of Cincinnati, Iowa and Nancy (Steve) Kincaid of Cincinnati, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; Shelley Seddon(David Jackson), Heather(Tony) Belloma, Samantha(George)Budiselich, Chloie Seddon, Katie Seddon, Kerri(Leigh) Hanson, Sarah (Matt) Seddon, Lora(Rich) Lyons, Charlie(Rachel) Seddon, Matthew Seddon, Joe (Jena) Sivetts, Hailey (Garrett) Cowan, Mike (Haley) Kincaid and Andrea Kincaid.  Twenty three great grandchildren; Peyton, Coltin, Payne, Bennie, Calvin, Calliope, Kersten, Brooke, Bailey, Abby, Lindsey, Sam, Mia, Morgan, Seth, Levi, Briggs, Henry, Weston, Blane, Emma Jean, Lathan and Landry, as well as a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Seddon; his parents, Arthur and Catherine Seddon; his son, Jim Seddon; a daughter-in-law, Patty Seddon; and six siblings, Roy Seddon, Shiela Gambs, Merwin Seddon, Edna Jillson, Wilfred Seddon, and Wilma Hipwell.

Cremation has been accorded.  Per Robert’s wishes there will be no formal services.  Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville has been entrusted with his services. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to HCI Hospice Care Services, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
