Russell Ray Sleeth, age 75 of Exline, Iowa passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by family members.

Russell was born on June 10, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Lewis "Jack" and Golda Odetta (Mathes) Sleeth.  He graduated from Cincinnati High School.  He joined the United States Army in 1960, and was honorably discharged in September of 1963.  Russell was united in marriage to Ellen "Tyke" Beatrice Abbott on April 18, 1964 in Centerville, Iowa.  From this union, four children were born, Jack, Richard, Vickie and Carol.

Russell was a self-employed carpenter.  He worked alongside his business partner, Ted Lawson, for over 30 years.   Russell helped build numerous community buildings throughout Appanoose County.  He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and cars as well.  He was also fond of tinkering with things; he could fix just about anything. 

During his free time, Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most importantly , spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Russell is survived by his children, Richard Ray ( Tammy) Sleeth of Exline, Vickie Lynn (Jeff Sines) Sleeth of Exline, and Carol Ann (Brent) Weber of Centerville; five grandchildren, Michael Lee (Norrita) Moorman, Tori Raelynn (Andy Rhinehart) Sleeth-Sines, Brittany LeeAnn (Jeff) Morelock, Gunnar Ray (Mallory Hatfield) Sleeth, and Cody Lee ( Laura Hamilton) Weber; 12 great-grandchildren, Makenzie Ann Hill, Karlie LeeAnn Morelock, Tatum Ellen Sleeth-Sines, Kaleb David Eugene Morelock, Kassidy Ellen Kay Morelock, Satta Hamilton, Annika Hamilton, Amira Moorman, Angel Moorman, DeVon Moorman, Makai Moorman, and Taliyah Moorman; five siblings, Faye Guffey of Ottumwa, Iowa, Linda Morse of Des Moines, Kay (David) Sleeth-Martin of Griffin, Georgia, Zelda Brinegar of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Cindy (John) Brown of Ringold, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen "Tyke Beatrice Sleeth; his parents, Lewis "Jack" and Golda Odetta Sleeth; a son, Jack LeRoy Sleeth; a grandchild, LeAnna Faye Sleeth-Sines; a great grandchild, Roman Ray Morelock; a niece, Michelle Brinegar; nephews, Bradley Guffey and Greg Guffey; great nephews, Zachary Guffey and Brennan Brown; a daughter-in-law, Leslie VanBlaricome; and brother in laws, Skeeter Guffy, Bob Morse, Ted Ancell.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Tammy Tuttle officiating.  Burial with military rites will follow at the Exline Cemetery, Exline, Iowa.  A visitation will take place from 9-10AM Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville.  Memorials have been established to the Russell Sleeth Family, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
