Summer Leanne Cox, age 34, of Allerton, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018.
Summer was born on October 6, 1983 in Carmichael, California, the daughter of Lisa Hackney and Ronald Clark II. Raised in Iowa by her parents, Lisa and Marty Crisp, Summer graduated from Moravia High School, with the class of 2002. On January 29, 2002, she was united in marriage to Chad Cox. From this union, three children were born, Mackinze, Shianne, and Cody. They later divorced.
Summer was a CNA for 16 years in several nursing homes throughout southeast Iowa, as well as at Lucas County Health Center. Most recently, she was employed with Iowa Select Farms in Derby, Iowa.
Summer's children were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Summer's kind spirit, passion for camping, love of hunting, and zest for life will live on through them. She was a past member of the National Turkey Federation. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister. She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. Summer would never say no to a person in need.
Left to honor Summer's memory are her parents, Marty and Lisa Crisp of Seymour; her biological father, Ronald (Ellie) Clark II of Oregon; her children, Mackinze Cox, Shianne Cox, and Cody Cox; her ex-husband, and good friend, Chad (Erica) Cox of Corydon; her siblings, Dustin Matthew (Danyale) Crisp of Centerville; Mindie Michelle (Eddy) Crisp of Rancho Cordova, California; and Lisa "Denise" (Steven) McClain of Centerville; grandmothers, Arlene Hackney of Fair Oaks, California and Barbara Vorhees of Centerville; nieces and nephews, Maddison Bolding, Lucas Crisp, Damien Crisp, Ayden Crisp, Antonio Basaldua, Reinaldo Castro, Yessica Castro, Lewis Castro, Camilla McClain, Kyler McClain, Klayten McClain, Samantha Cox, Breanna Cox, Abigail Cox, Ian Cox, Alex Cox and Evan Cox; uncles, Mike Hackney of Fair Oaks, California, Duane Hackney of Ione, California and David “Mike” (Jodi) Tallent of Cincinnati, Jim (Marlene) Clark and Stephen Clark; an aunt, Kimberly Clark; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Ted Hackney, Vernon Crisp, and Ronald Clark Sr.; a grandmother, Laurene Clark; an aunt, Sabra Crisp Hurst; and a brother, Danny Edward Crisp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, March 12, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with Chaplain Emery McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour. A visitation will take place Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 2-5PM.
