Welcome to the memorial page for

Twilah (Hunt) McVeigh

July 17, 1924 ~ September 20, 2017 (age 93)

Twilah Pearl McVeigh, age 93 of Mystic, Iowa passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

Twilah was born on July 17, 1924 in Mystic, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rhoda (Kenyon) Hunt.  Twilah was united in marriage to Frank Lewis McVeigh on May 9, 1942 in Unionville, Missouri.  To this union, five children were born, Frances, Caroll, David, Katherine, and Roger.

Twilah was a lifelong resident of Mystic.  At the age of 93, she still lived in her own home.  She was the oldest living resident of Mystic.

She was very active in several organizations in her life, including Mystic American Legion Auxiliary, Highland Cemetery Association, Flower Club, and a member of the Mystic Community Church.

She enjoyed playing cards, and going to Bingo any chance she got.  She loved to sew, quilt, and crochet.  She excelled in baking pies and bread.  Twilah was famous for her homemade noodles, even though she disliked them.  Her grandchildren would gather at her house before Halloween helping her make her famous popcorn balls.  Everyone knew to go to Grandma Twilah's for a popcorn ball no matter the age.

Twilah's family and her dog, Pudgy were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Twilah's kind spirit, passion for cooking, love of cards and bingo, and zest for life will live on through them.  She will be greatly missed by everyone. She touched the lives of many people, and maintained her trademark sense of humor, orneriness, and being feisty all the way to the end.

Twilah is survived by her daughter, Frances (Beaty) Ashby of Mystic, Iowa; her son, Roger (Fran) McVeigh of Unionville, Iowa; a daughter in law, Betty McVeigh; son in laws, Laurel Varner and Gary Barrell Sr; twenty grandchildren; forty three great grandchildren; twenty four great great grandchildren; her best friend "Pudgy"; as well as several spouses of grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on January 18, 2008; her parents, George and Rhoda Hunt; daughters, Caroll Sue Barrell and Katherine Darlene Varner; a son, David Roy McVeigh; son in law, Dean Beaty; grandchildren, Johnny McVeigh, Frankie McVeigh, John Martin, and Jade Prokes; great grandchildren, Avery Martin and David McVeigh; sisters, Georgetta Warnick, Irviljo Enderle, and Dorothy Hunt; and three brothers, Addison, Arlo, and Damon Hunt.
