Barbara Jean Craver (Clarke), age 93, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center, Long-term Care in Centerville.
Barbara was born on February 10, 1926 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Regina Victoria (Smith) and Joseph Clarke.
Barbara attended Centerville Schools, and after graduation from Centerville High School, she worked as “Rosie The Riveter” on the B29 Bomber for Boeing, Wichita, Kansas, during WWII. Barbara was proud that she served her country during such a turbulent time in history.
On February 19, 1946, Barbara was married to her high school sweetheart, Leo Ward Craver, after he returned from serving 4 years in the military as a medic in the Galapagos Islands. After their wedding, Leo worked for his father to support his growing family at Craver Lumber Company in Centerville until his retirement. Barbara and Leo lived the true happily ever after, loving each other unconditionally for all time.
Barbara worked at Montgomery Ward, for Dr. Parks and Dr. Jewett’s Medical Office, and retired after working for DDS. Craig Stater in Centerville as a dental assistant for 18 years. She was a member of the PEO Chapter D.
Barbara enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, reading, playing cards and dominos, and cooking for her family. She cherished time spent with her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her husband, Leo Craver of Centerville; her children, LeAnn Craver Ducey (David Ducey), Diane Craver Buss (William Buss), and Todd Craver (Doreen Hubbs); her grandchildren, Jennifer Sargent (Joe Sargent), Thaddeus Ducey, Nancy Buss, Suzanne Buss (Destry Davison), Samantha Buss, David Buss, Travis Craver, Lauren Craver, and Mallory Craver; her great grandchildren, Sam Sanchez, Luke Sanchez, Tynan Ducey, Kian Ducey, Cohen Huisman, Bordan Huisman, Presley Davison, Tage Davison, and Kase Davison; and her sister, JoAnne Hayes.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Regina and Joseph Clarke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, June 28, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Centerville, with Chaplin Reg Higginbottom officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will take place Friday, June 28, 2019 at the First United Methodist, with the family greeting friends from 10-11 AM.
