Barbara "Babbie" Vorhees, age 81, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
She was born on December 13, 1936 in Manila, Philippines, the daughter of Will "Bill" and Trinidad (Holmes) Raney Jr.. At approximately age thirteen, Babbie and her family moved to the United States. She spent most of her adult life in Tennessee and California.
Babbie was employed with the California Franchise Tax Board as a data entry clerk for many years.
In 1961, Babbie was united in marriage to Vernon Crisp and to this union, three children were born. Vernon preceded Babbie in death in the mid 1980s. Babbie was later married to Larry Vorhees in 1996. Larry passed away in 2012.
Babbie relocated to Iowa in 1989. During her time in Moravia, Iowa, she was active in two organizations, the Moravia Ruritans and the Moravia VFW. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by her two children, Matthew Martin (Lisa) Crisp of Seymour, Iowa and David Michael "Mike" (Jodi) Tallent of Cincinnati, Iowa; two step-children, John (Tricia) Vorhees of Sterling, Illinois and Jerimy (Ann) Vorhees of Des Moines, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; and three siblings, Eileen (Steven) Trumbull of Ithaca, New York, Fred (Donna) Raney of Wartburg, Tennessee, and Cathy (David) Howard of Wartburg, Tennessee.
Babbie was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Vernon Crisp and Larry Vorhees; a daughter, Sabra Hurst; a brother, William David Raney; and two grandchildren, Danny Crisp and Summer Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 10-11 AM.
