Cathlene Forsythe Horn was born February 18, 1929 to Aaron Jeffie Forsythe and Ruby Tracy Forsythe – the 5th of 6 children.
Cathlene passed away on December 4, 2019 in Nashville, TN. Her strong independent spirit served her well to the end.
Her first home was a small, 4 room farm house in rural South Central, Iowa. She attended a country school within walking distance of her home. In the winter they wrapped barbed wire around her shoes so she could walk across the icy field. Attending high school in Moulton, IA for Cathlene and her siblings required actually moving into Moulton to stay with family, or sometimes working for their room and board with a “town” family. Over the 72 years the remaining members of the class of 1947 have continued to try to connect once a year for a reunion.
On March 15, 1947, during her senior year in high school, she married D. Joe Horn. They lived most of their 63 years of marriage on farms in rural Moulton and Centerville, Iowa area until 2006, when due to declining health, they moved to Nashville to live near their daughter, Lana.
In 1952, they were invited to attend revival services at Centerville Church of God. This began a very important chapter in the life of Cathlene, Joe and their children. Over the next 67 years the church family became an extended, and much loved added family. Over the years, each member of the Horn family became active members of the church, and continues to walk in this legacy of faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Horn in 2010; her parents, Jeff and Ruby Forsythe; her sisters, Naomi Sleeth, Betty Albright, and Jean Bitner; and brothers, Bernard Forsythe and Junior Forsythe.
She is survived by her children, Lynn (Eldon) Schlenker, Anthony (Anne) Horn, and Lana (Don) Tracy; as well as 6 grandchildren, Angela Horn, Liliana Tami Joe Grace, Wesley (Rebekah) Schlenker, Brandon (Mande) Tracy, Aaron (Jenna) Horn, and Lindsay (Joe) Carr; plus 9 great grandchildren. A host of much loved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and church family were all near and dear to her heart.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville with Pastors Tony Angran and Howard Luscan officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Cemetery, near Moulton. A visitation will take place Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Solid Rock Church of God or Memorial Scholarship at Harvest Bible College in Des Moines, Iowa, and may be dropped off or mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
