Delmer Lee Ballanger, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019.
He was born November 8, 1933 in Main Station, Iowa, the son of Otis and Estella (Henderson) Ballanger. Delmer graduated from Centerville High School in 1951. He was united in marriage to Joann Benge on November 15, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville. The couple celebrated nearly sixty-seven years of marriage.
Delmer dedicated thirty years of employment to Iowa Southern Utilities in Centerville, until his retirement. He also operated a wallpaper business for many years, providing his services to numerous businesses and homes throughout Appanoose County.
In his free time, Delmer enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially mowing his lawn. Most importantly, he cherished his friends and family. Delmer dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior, and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Ballanger of Centerville; two children, Romona (Allen) McDanel of Grain Valley, Missouri and Rick (Kathy) Ballanger of Centerville; two brothers, Frank (Pat) Ballanger of Promise City, Iowa and Clarence (Judy) Ballanger of Moravia, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Melanie (Mike) Seals, Kelly (Jason) Murphy, Rochelle (Chris) Schroeder, Nicole (Jason) Shapiro, Andrew (Stephanie) McDanel, Janee (Brock) Carson, Justine Ballanger, and Jacoby (Krystia) Ballanger; seventeen great grandchildren, Matthew Seals, Carson Seals, Madison Murphy, Caleb Murphy, Luke Murphy, Brookelynn Schroeder, Anna Schroeder, Emma Schroeder, William Shapiro, Reece Shapiro, Lily McDanel, Harper McDanel, Presley Carson, Kaleha Carson, Emmett Carson, Arabella Ballanger, and Tatyn Ballanger; and a sister-in-law, Bethel Ballanger of Centerville.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Estella (Henderson) Ballanger; two stillborn daughters, Rebecca and Rochelle Ballanger; a son, Rodney Ballanger; two brothers, John and Nelson Ballanger; a sister-in-law, Deloris Ballanger; and in-laws, Bill and Juanita Benge.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, with Pastor Dennis Higgins officiating. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. A visitation will take place Friday, October 11, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 PM.
