Doyle Edwin Terry, age 87, of Numa, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center, Long Term Care in Centerville.
Doyle was born on May 26, 1932 in Exline, Iowa, the son of Raymond L. and Essie (Pugh) Terry. After graduating from Seymour High School, Doyle enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country faithfully, and was honorably discharged. On May 30, 1953, Doyle was united in marriage to Donna Clara Turk in Seymour, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Van and Sonja. The couple spent 65 wonderful years together.
Doyle worked at Omar Continental Bakery in LaSalle, Illinois for a few years, before relocating to Numa, Iowa in the early 1960’s. He farmed cattle, as well as milking cows, crops and hogs for over 30 years. In the early 1970’s, Doyle and Donna were presented with the Appanoose County Farmer of the Year award. He was a 4H leader for Franklin Farmhands for 15 years. In his later years, Doyle restored tractors. He also enjoyed remodeling the farm home in his spare time, starting from the time they moved in- doing a little at a time throughout the years. Doyle attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Centerville for many years. He was also a member of the Laplanders Tractor Club. Doyle cherished the time he spent with his daughter, Sonja, his friends, his dogs, Luther and Dee Dee, and his granddog, ShyLo.
In 2015, Doyle was invited to go to Washington D.C. with fellow soldiers on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. He graciously accepted the invitation, and it was a memory of a lifetime.
