Elba Bonus Bartell, age 87, of Mystic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Proffitt's Residential Care in Centerville.
Elba was born on February 11, 1930, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph Leslie and Roberta Bernice (Day) Roberts. She graduated from Creston High School. Elba was united in marriage to Raymond Howard Bonus, Sr. They moved to Mystic, where they raised their children. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1987. On March 11, 1995, she married Maynard Bartell. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2003.
Elba loved working outside with her plants and flowers. She was fond of dancing, especially as a young woman. Ebla had a passion for Garage sales. Later in life, she enjoyed helping out the elderly when she was able. Elba's children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Elba's kind spirit, passion for dancing, her love for the outdoors, and zest for life will live on through them.
She was a Christian. Elba was an avid church-goer her whole life, including the Nazarene Church in Mystic, and the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville. She lived in Mystic for numerous years. In 2013, Elba moved to Proffitt's Residential Care in Centerville.
Elba is survived by her brother, Johnny Roberts; her children, Shirley, Judy (John), Randy, JR (Renee), Todd (Laurie), Kevin, and Rhonda (Brian); nineteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Raymond Howard Bonus, Sr.; her 2nd husband, Maynard Bartell; a son, Leslie, and two daughters, Marsha and Lisa.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30AM, Friday, January 26, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Tony Angran officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will take place from 10:30AM-11:30AM, Friday, January 26, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville.
