Esther Marie Valentine

May 19, 1927 ~ April 21, 2018 (age 90)

Esther Marie (George) Valentine, age 90, of Plano, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa.

Esther was born on May 19, 1927 in Peru, Illinois, the only daughter of Henry and Minnie (Jacobs) George.  At the age of 7, they moved to Rock Island, Illinois.  She attended Rock Island High School, and graduated with the class of 1945.

After school, Esther went to work for International Harvester, Co., Farmall Works.  It was there, she met the love of her life.  She was united in marriage to Louis C. Valentine "Pistol" in 1949, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  In 1960, the couple moved to a farm, north of Plano. They lived there for over 50 years of their married life.From this union, a son was born, George Valentine.  He preceded her in death in November of 2006.

Esther was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville.   She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She was fond of quilting, knitting, and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Angela (Jimmy) Stufflebeam of Moravia and Matthew (Kristina) Valentine of Molt, Montana; great grandchildren, Shelby (Jimmy) Bates of Ottumwa, Spenser Stufflebeam of Ames, Richard Sloan, Morgan Valentine, Michael Valentine, Leighanne Valentine and Mark Valentine all of Molt, Montana; and a great-great grandchild, Camden James Bates of Ottumwa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis C. Valentine "Pistol"; her parents, Henry and Minnie George; her son, George Valentine; and a brother at birth.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating.  Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.  A visitation will take place from 10-11AM, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville.  Memorials have been established to the Esther Valentine Memorial, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
