Gwyneth Iona (Miller) Showers Long, age 91, of Centerville, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Gwyneth was born to Louise (Evans) Miller and Raymond Alvin Miller at their home in Lucas, Iowa. She went to school in Lucas, Iowa. When she left home, she went to live with her mom’s sister in Des Moines. She worked in Des Moines at JC Penny and Younkers as an elevator operator.
She met and married Johnnie Walter Showers of Mystic, Iowa, on October 27, 1945. To this union, three daughters were born, Janet Louise, Iona Jeanne and Judy Kaye. They later divorced. On June 10, 1972, she married John Zedrig Long of Cincinnati, Iowa, who died in 1984.
Gwyneth owned and worked in restaurants for 29 ½ years as a cook. She also worked as a cook at Centerville, Iowa schools for 11 ½ years, and at McGraw Edison factory for several years. She worked hard all of her life, she loved her family and was always there for them.
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Iona (Clarence) Simatovich of Newton, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth Miller of Chariton, Iowa; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Janet Milburn Dunham and Judy Belzer; her mother and father; a brother, Alvin; a half-brother, Charles; and two sisters-in-law, Zelma Miller and Penny Miller.
A Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-1:00PM. A prayer will be conducted immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow the prayer at Dale Cemetery, north of Centerville.
