James “Jim” Aiello, age 81, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Mercy West Lakes in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Jim was born in Rathbun, Iowa on December 8, 1936, the son of Tom and Louise (Valentine) Aiello. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1955. He was united in marriage to Enid “Peggy” Davis on August 19, 1960 in Centerville, Iowa, and to this union, the couple were blessed with three children, Tammy, John, and Michelle.
Following high school, Jim worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for a brief period of time. He then accepted a position with the Baxter Box Company in Centerville, dedicating nearly ten years with the company. Jim subsequently worked for McGraw-Edison as a line foreman for an estimated five years. He then drove a coal truck out of Missouri for a short period of time before accepting a position with L&W Quarries in Centerville, where he drove a rock truck for a couple of years. Jim eventually accepted a job with the Centerville Community Schools as a bus driver, a position he passionately maintained for twenty years until his retirement.
Jim enlisted in the Army National Guard on June 7, 1954. He served his country faithfully for many years, until his honorable discharge on June 6, 1966, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Jim was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville.
He is survived by his wife, Enid “Peggy” Aiello of Centerville, Iowa; three children, Tammy (Dale) Walton of Austin, Texas, John Aiello of Centerville, and Michelle (Jeff) VanCleave of Waukee; five grandchildren, Jackie (Hass) Jaber, Brandi (Josh) Ginter, Brandon (Breona) VanCleave, Minacheyla VanCleave, and Rylee VanCleave; three great grandchildren, Jalen Jaber, River Ginter, and Carson VanCleave; in-laws, Anna Beth (Earl) Taylor, Carl Mac Davis, and Patty Davis; a special nephew, Ronnie Young; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Tom Aiello, Tina Young, John Aiello, Frank Aiello, Margaret Aiello, and Mary Gorman; a great grandchild, Eve Ginter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold (Irene) Davis; a brother-in-law, Larry “Doc” Davis; and two sisters-in-law, Jenny (Larry) Garr and Barb Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centerville with Father Bill Hubmann officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A visitation will take place on Monday, November 26, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 5-7 PM. A Rosary will be conducted at 4:30 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
