James “Jim” Shipman, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at Centerville Specialty Care.
Jim was born on November 30, 1933 in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Harold and Felicia (Hughes) Shipman. After high school graduation, he furthered his education at a plumbing trade school. He was a plumber for over sixty years before he retired.
Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 15, 1952 in Huntington, West Virginia. He served his country faithfully as a Field Artillery Cannoneer. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1953 in Quantico, Virginia.
Jim was united in marriage to Connie Stanley on June 13, 1998 in Centerville, Iowa. He was a member of the American Legion, and a past member of the Eagles in Centerville.
Left to honor Jim’s memory include his wife, Connie Shipman of Centerville; his children, Daniel, Mark, Mary Alice, Stacey Lynn, Rachel Naomi, Angel, Gary, Jason, and Derek; his brothers, Jack Shipman of Leechburg, PA and Gerald “Jerry” Shipman of Leechburg, PA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Felicia Shipman; a son, Jimmie; sisters, JoAnn Grimm, Pat and Nancy Shipman; and brothers, Paul, Bernard, Gene, William “Bud”, and Todd Shipman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Tony Angran officiating. Military Rites follow the funeral service at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Cremation will follow the funeral service, and burial will be held at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A Visitation will take place Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM. A memorial has been established to Connie Shipman, to be determined at a later date, and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
