Jerry Lee Myers

August 22, 1950 ~ April 27, 2017 (age 66)

Jerry Lee Myers, age 66 of Unionville, Missouri, passed away, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.  He had been a resident of the Putnam County Care Center since 2013 after suffering a stroke.

The youngest sibling and only son of Lonnie and Mary (Swearengen) Myers, Jerry was born in Princeton, Missouri on August 22, 1950. Jerry was raised in Sullivan County around the Newtown, Missouri area.  He was a 1968 graduate of Newtown High School. On August 11, 1973, he was united in marriage to Jeanie Wilcox in Unionville, Missouri.  To this union, they were blessed with two sons.

In November 1974, he accepted Christ as his personal savior.  He joined the West Liberty Baptist Church in Unionville, Missouri, where he continued to hold his membership.

Jerry had a witty sense of humor, was a sociable person and enjoyed being around people.  He was always looking for a fishing buddy when spring rolled around.  He kept his family well supplied with his bounty.

He worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator, running many types of equipment.  He had a natural talent for running heavy equipment as well as being mechanically minded.  He was always looking for something to tinker with or fix up, and then use as a trade for the next project.

When he was 52, he attended the Pensacola Bible Institute in Pensacola, Florida for one year.  He soon learned he could trade off his homework to the younger guys who might need a little mechanical work done on their cars and trucks.

He loved his family and was especially proud of his two sons.

Surviving are his sons, Christopher (Mui) Of Unionville, Mo, And Colby of Southern Pines, NC; Three sisters, Pat Jones of Kennedale, TX; Sharon (Dean) Wyant of Unionville, MO, Janet (William) Schoonover of Pollock, MO; four grandchildren, Hannah, Joshua, Reina, and Daniel Myers, all of Unionville, MO; an Aunt, Jean Bressie of Sun Valley, CA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Mary Myers; his Maternal Grandparents, Thomas and Sally (Franklin) Swearengen; his Paternal Grandparents, Guy E. and Mary E. (Rogers) Myers; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Jones.

Per Jerry’s Wishes, Cremation has been accorded.  Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Unionville, Missouri with Pastor Chris Myers officiating.  Memorials have been established to the Putnam County Care Center and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at
