American Veteran 02

Jimmy Ivan Main

October 15, 1926 ~ November 14, 2018 (age 92)

Our Dad, our brother, and our friend, Jimmy I. Main, passed away peacefully in Farmington Hills, Michigan on November 14.  He had turned 92 in October.

He was born on October 15, 1926 in Appanoose County, Iowa.  After serving in the Naval Air Corps as a gunner and radioman in World War II, Jim met Virginia Jones of Detroit, while both were in Washington D.C. and later, they married.  Jim got his degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State, and worked his career with Westinghouse and Fife Electric in Detroit.  After retiring in 1992, Jim and Ginny retired to rural Michigan.  After Ginny passed in 2002, Jim moved back onto the farm where he was born, near Lake Rathbun.  He grew amazing tomatoes.

Jim – my Dad – liked everyone.  He loved to talk, and tell stories.  He would talk to people everywhere and remember them, even years later, when he saw them again.  There were no strangers to Dad – only friends he hadn’t met yet.  He was a friend to all, and his ready smile will be missed by all of us who had the fortune to know him.

Jim is survived by a son, Dennis (Eileen) of Sacramento and a daughter Jaime Dziadosz (Scott) of Farmington Hills, MI, and his much loved grandson, Mathew Dziadosz, of East Lansing, MI.  Of his 11 brothers and sisters, he is survived by Anna Laura Reihsen of West Des Moines; Monna Tarbell of Des Moines and Arizona; and Marion Main, Jerry Main, Betty Marshall, and Bill Main; all of the Appanoose County area.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  A Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Grosse Point Memorial Church in Grosse Point Farms, Michigan, with the Benediction beginning at 10:30AM.  A Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with family greeting friends from 12:00-2:00PM.  A Color Guard service will take place at 12:00PM, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia.  Private family burial will be held at a later time.  Memorials have been established to the Centerville VFW, Post#526, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
