Kenneth “Larry” Burns, age 72, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville.
Larry was born on January 8, 1946 in Brazil, Iowa, the son of Glen and Doris (Blumer) Burns. He was united in marriage to Lynn Simatovich in 1967. To this union, three children were born, Dan, Robin, and Shelly. They were later divorced in 1977.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army from October 5, 1964 to December 1, 1966. During those two years, he spent just shy of a year overseas with the USARPAC, earning his National Defense Service Medal.
Larry was a Jack of All Trades. He worked various jobs throughout his lifetime, including a meat packing plant in Des Moines, the Haydite factory in Centerville; farm work and yard work. He enjoyed watching television, playing with his dog Tuffy, and playing with his grandkids. He was a fun-loving jokester, who loved to tease his children and grandchildren.
Left to honor Larry’s memory include his children, Dan (Michelle) Burns of Des Moines, Iowa, Robin (Kenneth) Purkey of Unionville, Missouri, and Shelly (Jack) McGrann of Cincinnati, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Joey (Amy) Knowles, Juanita (Alex) Hughes, Shaelynn (D.C.) Mikels, The Late Josh Snorgrass, Sarah (Josh) Horrall, Zachary McGrann, and Jeremiah (Tracy) McGrann; sixteen great-grandchildren; ten siblings, Dorothy Parcell, Max Burns, his twin brother, Jerry Burns, Carl Burns, Marlene DeMoss, Margaret Arnold, Maxine Agan, Bob Burns, Jim Admire, and Mary Jenkins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Doris Burns; his grandparents; as well as several other family members.
Cremation has been accorded. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 3:00-5:00PM. Military Rites will be conducted at Lange Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 3:00PM, prior to the visitation. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family of Kenneth “Larry” Burns, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
