Loretta Jean Campbell, age 83, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at her home.
Loretta was born on November 26, 1933 in Brazil, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Julie Ann (Starcevich) Vanderheyden. She was united in marriage to Gerald Campbell on September 8, 1956 in Unionville, Missouri. To this union of marriage, one son was born, Gerald Rodney Campbell.
Faith, family, and hard work were the defining components of Loretta's life. In 1980, Gerald and Loretta purchased the Star Cleaners in Centerville from Bob Dotson. Together, the couple owned and operated the business for nearly eleven years, selling it in 1991 to their son, Rod.
Loretta was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for much of her life. In her earlier years, she taught at the Eden Baptist Church in Humeston, Iowa. Later, she taught for several years at the Dale Church, north of Centerville.
Loretta took great pride in her motorcycle and collection of dolls, teapots, and music boxes. She also made the best peanut butter fudge, chocolate dessert, and homemade ice cream. She will always be remembered as being extremely giving and selfless. She found great joy in helping others, especially her family and friends.
Most importantly, Loretta loved her family and cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchild.
She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-one years, Gerald Campbell of Centerville; her son, Rod Campbell of Centerville; three grandchildren, Brandon (Jessi Jones) Campbell of Des Moines, Krystal (Srikant) Mikkilineni of Clive, and Wade Campbell of Ames; one great grandchild, Ahsha Mikkilineni; and a brother, Johnny (Linda) Vanderheyden of Centerville.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Julie Ann Vanderheyden; half-sister, Leona Kauzlarich; brothers, Raymond Vanderheyden, Ronnie Vanderheyden, Ned Vanderheyden, and Ted Vanderhayden; and a grandson, Gerald Thomas “G.T.” Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Dale Church, north of Centerville, with Jack Middleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset View Cemetery near Moulton. A visitation will take place from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Dale Church, north of Centerville.
