Paul Dean Hornaday, age 68 of Bloomfield, formerly of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Davis County Hospital.
Paul was born on July 12, 1951 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Everette and Hazel Fern (Hayes) Hornaday. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 4, 1969. Paul served his country faithfully in the Vietnam War, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. His last duty of assignment was on the USS Cleveland. He was honorably discharged on October 14, 1970.
Paul was united in marriage to Debra “Debbie” Menken on January 31, 1971 in Centerville, Iowa. He held various job positions throughout his life. He worked at Shivvers, drove a truck, and worked at the Clark Station in Centerville. His favorite job was farming. On his down time, Paul enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on old cars.
Left to honor Paul’s memory include his wife of over 48 years, Debbie Hornaday of Bloomfield; his children, Paul Jason Hornaday of Centerville, Kimberly (Kevin) Orman of Ottumwa, and Missy Kovacevich of Centerville; six grandchildren, Damon Hornaday, Brittany Orman, Hannah Hornaday, Kelsie (Denver) Walker, Brody Johnson, and Karlee Johnson; two great grandchildren; siblings, Gene (Jeanette) Hornaday, David (Carol) Hornaday, Mark (Karen) Hornaday, and Charlie (Chanda) Hornaday; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Hazel Hornaday; and a nephew, Jared Hornaday.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Adam Standley officiating. Military Rites will be conducted following the funeral service at the funeral home. A Visitation will take place, Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville from 12:00PM-2:00PM, with the family greeting friends from 1:00-2:00PM.
