Ronald Eugene Long, age 71, of Promise City, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, September 29, 2018 at Mercy West Lakes in Clive, Iowa.
He was born in Centerville, Iowa on March 29, 1947, the son of Arlo and Carmen (Wales) Long. Ronald attended Seymour Schools in his youth. He later served his country in the United States Navy, honorably discharging from the military following a tour in the Vietnam War.
Ronald was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hibdon on May 5, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Elizabeth preceded him in death on January 21, 2007.
He spent many years working in the transportation field as a truck driver.
Ronald engaged in many hobbies throughout his lifetime, including fishing, riding horses, as well as numerous other outdoor activities. Most importantly, he loved his family, cherishing the times he shared with them. Furthermore, the last two years of his life revolved around his grandchildren.
Ronald was a past member of the Methodist Church in Jerome, Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter, Destiny Long of Centerville, Iowa; seven step children, Russell (Lori) Lewis, James Lewis, Connie (Bill) Boyd, Monte (Sissy) Lewis, Bobby (Patty) Lewis, Michael Helmick, and Gail (Joyce) Helmick; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; four sisters, Beverly Kirby of Oklahoma, Betty Baker of Humeston, Iowa, Marjorie (Vernon) Bedford of Cantril, Iowa, and Carolyn Opperman of Centerville, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Long; his son, Rodney Long; and a brother, Ralph Long.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Promise City Community Center in Promise City with Pastor Sharon Squires officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Highland Cemetery, Mystic. A memorial has been established to the Family of Ronald Long and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
