April 8, 1940 ~ June 5, 2022 (age 82)

Obituary

Anna Lucille Janicke, Re, Moore, age 82, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.

Anna was the wife of Gerald Janicke and is also survived by her son, Michael of Centerville; her daughter, Cheryl Pagliaro; and son-in-law, Nicholas of Saulsbury, Tennessee.  She is also survived by her grandsons, Nicholas and James Pagliaro.  Besides Michael and Cheryl, Anna gave birth to twin sons, John Charles and James Joseph, who both died shortly after birth.  Both of her parents predeceased her.

Anna graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1960.  She then attended and graduated from Beauty College and became an accomplished hair stylist in Little Rock, Arkansas, and later in south Houston, Texas, where she resided with her husband, Gerald “Jerry” while he was stationed at the Manned Spacecraft Center.

Anna met Jerry on a blind date when he was an Air Force Second Lieutenant at Little Rock Air Force Base.  After a short engagement, they married in November of 1962, while Jerry was on assignment at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.  She was an Air Force wife for 21 faithful and supportive years.  Anna was married to Jerry for over 59 years.

One of Anna’s most gratifying times was when Jerry was assigned to the then Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas.  She had the opportunity to associate with and come to know a number of the astronaut wives from Gemini 7 to Apollo 8.  As a military wife, she could appreciate their concern and commitment to the missions their husbands faced.  On two separate occasions, she had to maintain the household and raise their two children; once when Jerry was sent to Alaska for a year, and once when he was sent to Greenland for a year.

Besides being a faithful military wife, Anna was a skilled leader and organizer.  While stationed at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, she excelled as the Chairwoman of all the Red Cross volunteers working at the Base Hospital receiving a special commendation from the Regional Red Cross Director upon her departure.

Upon Jerry’s civilian retirement in 1988 and their subsequent move to Florida, Anna became a faithful partner in the Christian Ministry of Campsite Evangelism they were both a part of there.  She maintained the Headquarters office of the ministry, while answering letters and running the Mail Order Bible Study program of the ministry.  Accompanying Jerry on all his preaching assignments, she led many people to salvation in Jesus Christ through her witnessing and women’s bible studies.

Anna had been active in the Scouting program, having been a Cub Scout Den Mother.  She was also skilled at theorem painting and many other crafts.  Anna was a member of the Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville.  She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and a strong Christian and follower of Jesus Christ.
