Caroline Eva (Baldwin) Waits

January 28, 1924 ~ November 8, 2020 (age 96)

Obituary

Caroline Eva Waits, age 96, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.

She was born on January 28, 1924 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Myree (Jackson) Baldwin.  Caroline was united in marriage to Johnny E. Waits on June 12, 1939 in Knoxville, Iowa and to this union of marriage, six children were born, Bobby, Johnny, George, Mark, Donny, and Candi.

Faith and family defined Caroline’s life.  A lifelong Pentecostal, she remained active in the church throughout her lifetime, always striving to strengthen her relationship with her Lord and Savior.

Caroline took pride in being a homemaker most of her adult life.  She worked tirelessly to provide a loving environment at home for her husband and children, a place full of love and encouragement.  A home where she always greeted her six children when they arrived home from school and other activities.  A place where they would sit around the dinner table as a family and share in the fellowship of a wonderful meal provided by Caroline, especially her fried chicken!  Most importantly, a home filled with daily reminders to the family’s obedience to God.

Caroline could be described as a person who never met a stranger.  By the time the children were in school, she ventured out of the home to sell Avon.  Her favorite part of the job was meeting new people, as she relished in the social aspect of her position with the company.

It should be noted that one of Caroline’s favorite hobbies was reading, a pastime she maintained throughout her lifetime.

Left to honor her memory include her four children, George (Karen) Waits of Des Moines, Iowa, Mark (Debbie) Waits of Coffeyville, Kansas, Donny (Darlene) Waits of South Bend, Indiana, and Candace (Mark) Scritchfield of Centerville, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and three siblings, Laquita Cheezum of Illinois, Jim Soto of California, and John (Rose) Soto of Wisconsin.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Baldwin and Myree Soto; her loving husband, Johnny E. Waits; two children, Bobby Waits and Johnny Waits Jr.; and seven siblings, Kathleen Gibford, Frances McCreery, Etta Pieper, Rayes Soto, Dave Conly, Andrew Soto, Virginia Kennedy, and Eunice Knight.

Graveside services will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa with Pastor Mark Waits and Pastor Donny Waits officiating.  Services will be broadcast live on the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Centerville Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/1605104883134044/live/   A memorial has been established to the Friends of the Drake Public Library, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Waits family, 1900 S. 18th St, Centerville, Iowa, 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
