James Henry Harrison, age 92, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
James was born on December 19, 1927 in Hamilton, Iowa, the son of George and Mary Harrison. He voluntarily enlisted into the United States Army after his brother was killed in Normandy, while serving his country. James served his country faithfully, stationed in Korea for a period of time, before being honorably discharged.
On July 2, 1972, James was united in marriage to Joyce McMillen in Unionville, Missouri. James farmed in Hamilton for a period of time. He also worked for 3M in Knoxville in the Industrial Sanitation Department for 17 years. Together, James and Joyce owned Harrison’s Lounge in Bussey. At one time, while working for 3M, James was farming, and owned and operated the bar. He then bought Triple J Café in Lovilia.
James enjoyed fishing, and loved trains. He was also a member of the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia.
Left to honor James’ memory are his loving wife, Joyce Harrison of Centerville; His children, Robert (Connie) Kelly of Bussey, Deborah (Nancy) Kelly of Des Moines, Dennis Kelly of Chariton, and Johnnie (Debbie) Kelly of Knoxville; four siblings; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty-five great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Harrison; a son, Kerry Dean Kelly; and a brother, John Harrison.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM, Friday, November 20, 2020 at Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Military Rites will be conducted following the service. Memorials may be made to Joyce Harrison, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Harrison Family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544. Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com. According to the Covid-19 guidelines established by the State of Iowa, masks will be required to attend the service.
