John William Poli was born March 11, 1923, in Mystic, Iowa and passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, in Centerville, Iowa at the age of 98. He was the son of Violet Peek Poli and Fiorelo Poli.
John was very proud of being a World War II veteran. He served in the Army from April 1943-April 1946. John was in the Medical Corp and served in England, France, and Berlin.
After returning home from the War, John married Geraldine Potter in August 1946. They had three children Dixie, Jim, and Paul. They later divorced.
John was a hard worker, providing for his family as a coal miner, farmer, and rock truck driver. After his move to Centerville, John raised a big garden providing fresh produce to family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife Geraldine, two sisters, Florence, and Helen, three brothers, Albert, James, and Charles, and grandson Todd Bridges.
Those left to honor John’s memory include his partner, Linda Brown, his children Dixie (Keith) Bridges of Marion, Texas, Jim (Paula) Poli of Clive, Iowa, and Paul (Ruth) Poli of West Union, South Carolina, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister, Blanche Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, and his brother, Raymond (Myrna) Poli of Chariton, Iowa along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, and a private family burial of the cremains will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorials have been established to Welcome Home Soldier Fund, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Poli family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
