Lois Cridlebaugh, age 94, of Centerville, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center, Long Term Care in Centerville.
Lois was born on September 8, 1926 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon George and Alma (Hanson) Marshall. She graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1944. On May 16, 1948, Lois was united in marriage to Raymon C. “John” Cridlebaugh at the Cridlebaugh farm near Udell, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Alma Kaye, Gary, and Kathy.
After high school, Lois taught Country Schools for several years. Once Lois and John got married, she stopped teaching and the couple farmed for over 40 years in the Udell area before moving to Centerville. During this time, she also worked at HyVee in Centerville for 20 years in the Produce Department.
Lois enjoyed needlework, especially sewing and gardening. She was a dedicated member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, east of Centerville, and read her Bible every day. She was also a member of the MercyOne Hospital Auxiliary, and loved volunteering at the hospital.
Left to cherish Lois’ memory are her children, Kaye (Lyle) Swarts of Newton, Gary (Joanne) Cridlebaugh of Centerville, and Kathy Cridlebaugh of Centerville; seven grandchildren, Brad (Chelsea) Swarts, Greg (Carie) Swarts, Jeremy (Cookie) Swarts, Mike (Sarah) Cridlebaugh, Sara (Kevin) Goryl, Michelle (Austin) Cunliffe, and Ryan (Macey) Sacco; thirteen great grandchildren, Gabby, Zoe, Skylar, Gentry, Hudson, Ryker, Rylie, Aidan, Lincoln, Elsie, Clara, Marshall, and one great grandchild on the way; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Alma Marshall; her husband, John Cridlebaugh; a great granddaughter, Hannah Swarts; two sisters, Mildred Adamson and Helen Ross; as well as two brothers, Vance Marshall and Cliff Marshall.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville. Burial will follow the service at Eaton Cemetery, west of Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 6-8PM. Memorials have been established to either the Mt.
