Marilyn Jean (Stevenson) Hoover

September 27, 1935 ~ June 27, 2021 (age 85)


Marilyn Jean Stevenson Hoover was the eldest of five siblings, born at a farmhouse in Davis County, Iowa, to Cordia and Carl Stevenson on September 27, 1935.  She graduated high school at Moulton High School and attended college in Kirksville at Northeast Missouri State College.  She married Ed Hoover on September 27, 1959 and had three children, Julie, Lisa and Scott.  Marilyn lived a full and happy life in Centerville, Iowa, where she was an active member of the Methodist Church, Red Hat Lady Club, and weekly bridge club.  She moved away in recent years to be closer to family and was diagnosed with dementia.  She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27, at Excelsior Springs Nursing Home Rehab Center, in Missouri with family present.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hoover, brothers, Robert and Rodney Stevenson, mother and father, Cordia and Carl and long-time companion, Bert Tracy.  Her in-laws, Dewey and Thelma Hoover, Reta (and Sebastian) Ruma.

She leaves behind her children, Julie (and Butch) Gephart, Lisa (and Mark) Postma, and Scott (and Melissa) Hoover, grandchildren, Delaney and Parker Postma, Summer and Tyler Hoover, her sister, Sandra (and Davis) Burgher, brother, Martin (and Norma) Stevenson, sister-in-law, Bev Stevenson, nieces and nephews; Joyce (and Michael) Frazier, Lucy and Eva Stevenson, Jeff Burger, Melanie (and Scott) Froyan and Shawn (and Shari) Stevenson, Mary Lynn Ruma, Jim (and Danette) Ruma, Nancy (and Bob Fowler), Janet (and Kent) Moore.

Friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service to be held on Saturday, July 10th at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville at 11:00am.  Afterwards, refreshments will be served at the First United Methodist Church at 410 N Main Street in Centerville.  Lange Funeral Home has been entrusted with caring for the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Three Rivers Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Association, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Hoover family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
