Max D. Rash

Max D. Rash, age 84, of Seymour, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 01, 2020 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon.

Max was born on November 14, 1935 in Jerome, Iowa, the son of Zora and Myral (Hardy) Rash.  He graduated from Seymour High School with the Class of 1954.  On August 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Anita Jean Rash in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union of marriage, five children were born, Kevin, Mickey, Kim, Joel, and Greg.  Anita and Max recently celebrated sixty-six years of marriage.

After high school, Max began working for Farris Wade at the Standard Oil Station in Seymour.  It is to be noted, that Max had perfect inspection tests while working there.  In the mid 1970’s, he became the Director of Transportation for the Seymour School District.  Max worked there for 25 years to retirement, and held the State of Iowa record for never having a bad inspection throughout his career.

Max was a “Jack of all trades”.  He combined fields, did handyman work for several people, including concrete, electrical, plumbing and so much more.  He was on the Volunteer Fire Department in Seymour, and on the Seymour City Council for a period of time.  When the city of Seymour redid the baseball fields, it was renamed the Rash Field.  Max enjoyed refereeing throughout Southern Iowa, including Football, Basketball, and umpiring Softball.

In his spare time, Max enjoyed woodworking, fishing, spending time with his family, and playing with the grandkids and great grandkids.

Left to honor Max’s memory are four children, Kevin (Patty) Rash of Los Angeles, California, Mickey (Don) Lindstrom of Lincoln, Nebraska, Kim Rash of Corydon, Iowa and Greg Rash of Urbandale, Iowa; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Beverly (Dave) Lotridge of Southern Missouri; a sister-in-law, Joyce Rash of Des Moines; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members.

Max was preceded in death by his wife, Anita on September 29, 2020; his parents, Zora and Myral Rash; his son, Joel Rash and his wife, Sally; two brothers, Richard Rash and William Rash; a sister, Norma Flowers; and a brother-in-law, Forrest “Casey” Flowers.

Joint Graveside services for Anita and Max will be held at 10:30AM, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa.  A public luncheon will take place following the graveside service at the Seymour Community Center in Seymour, Iowa.  A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church of Seymour, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Rash family, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at
