Obituary

Richard M. Glovas, age 83 of Rathbun, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa.

Richard was born on May 13, 1938 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Max James Glovas and Mary (Todey) Glovas.  He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1956.  On April 1, 1957, Richard enlisted into the United States Army.  He faithfully served his country, and was honorably discharged after 2 years of service.  On January 31, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Sullivan in Unionville, Missouri.

Richard worked at John Deere in Ottumwa for a period of time.  He then went to Newton, Iowa to work at Maytag for a few years.  Richard then operated Mary’s Tavern on the Levee in Centerville, before becoming self employed as a carpenter for many years.

Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed going dancing.  He was currently a member of the Centerville Eagles, Arie #2675, where he would go to spend time with friends who knew him as “Peanuts”.

Left to honor Richard’s memory are his children, Tonja (Mark) Leager of Moulton, and Rick (Ashley) Glovas of Pueblo West, Colorado; step children, Kim (Dennis) Schutty of Newton, and Lisa (Guy) Winchell of Newton; a sister, Barbara (David) Ryan of Lake Panorama, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three nieces, five nephews; as well as many cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mary Glovas; his wife, Linda Glovas; and a sister, Dolores Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, June 7, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Father Timothy Armbruster officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville with Military Rites conducted.  Visitation will take place, Monday, June 7, 2021 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 9-11AM.  Memorials have been established to Tonja Leager, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, C/O Glovas family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at www.langefh.com.
