Robert Darrell Harris

August 1, 1941 ~ June 20, 2022 (age 80)

Obituary

Robert Darrell Harris, age 80, of Moulton, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Bloomfield Care Center.

Darrell was born on August 1, 1941 at home in Moulton, Iowa, the son of Robert Glen Harris and Irene Pauline (Roemerman) Harris.  He was united in marriage to Sharon Sue Piatt and had three children, Richard, Rex and Sheila.  He was later united in marriage to Claudia Christine (Clark) Hand on March 18, 1977, and to this union, Darrell gained a son, Terry Hand.

He grew up quickly.  At a young age, Darrell started working various adult jobs including as a Coal miner, a Maytag employee, and as a farm hand to a local farmer.  Darrell purchased the farmers land and maintained it for the remainder of his life.

Darrell loved his land, his cows and his family.  His favorite colors were John Deere Green and Yellow. Darrell was fond of deer hunting and of anything pumpkin, especially pumpkin pie. He was a hardworking man that was never afraid of a job, no matter what it entailed.  He worked on the farm as long as he could, even with an amputated foot.

Darrell was very ornery- you would know this just by speaking to him but especially if he would wink or grin at you.  His grunts, whistles and funny noises could stop anyone or anything in their tracks.  Darrell had multiple stories that he told and knowledge that he gained throughout his life.  He would often speak of ranger rides and riding in the combine.  Darrell enjoyed having a beverage with his friends and family at the end of his day.  At the end of every visit with a family member or friend, he would always be sure to end it with “See Ya Later Alligator, After While Crocodile”.

Left to honor Darrell’s memory are his children, Richard Harris of Oskaloosa, Rex (Sheri) Harris of Moulton, Sheila (Scott) Palmer of Mystic, and Terry (Jennifer) Hand of Exline; a sister, Wilma Zemo of Portland, Texas; four brothers, Gary Dean (Judy) Harris and Dennis Glen (Jan) Harris all of Moulton, Iowa, Jerry Gene (Vivien) Harris of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Randy Lee Harris of Troy, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Paul) Feeney, Whitney (Aaron) Ballanger, Chelsey (Jake) Scanlan, Austin Harris, Erin (Quinten) Merritt, Lucas Hand, Kylee Harris and Connor Hand; five great grandchildren, Quintyn Feeney, Adalynn Ballanger, Dayden Ballanger, Lincoln Merritt and Baker Scanlan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Irene Harris; his first wife, Sharon Harris; second wife, Claudia Harris; as well as his brother-in-law, Louie Zemo.
