Roger Wayne Davenport, age 59, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 03, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Roger was born in Centerville, Iowa on February 27, 1961, the son of Johnny “John” and Annabelle (Hendon) Davenport. Following his high school education, Roger worked for a mechanic shop for a brief period of time. In his late teens, he enlisted in the National Guard. He served in Germany twice before being honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Kathy Elaine Heartley on January 3, 1986 in Unionville, Missouri. To this union, two children were born, John Wayne Davenport and David Allen Davenport.
Following his military duties, Roger worked as a trucker. He also spent time as a mechanist with heavy machinery. Roger became a licensed electrician for a brief period of time. In the late 1980’s, he began working for Hawkeye Molding, and retired from there in 2004. He then worked with Randy Walker for a while until his health complications worsened. He struggled with his Diabetes for a very long time. Roger was a member of the People’s Baptist Church in Centerville.
Left to honor Roger’s memory are his wife of 34 years, Kathy Davenport of Centerville; his children, John Davenport and David Davenport, both of Centerville; three sisters, Denise (Rex) Campbell, Patricia Conger, Lisa (Mike) Myers; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annabelle Davenport; two brothers in law, Eugene Heartley and Doug Conger; a nephew, Joe Heartley; and a niece, Heather Myers.
According to family wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
