Roger Wayne Gladfelder

March 23, 1942 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 79)


Roger Wayne Gladfelder, age 79, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.

Roger was born in Centerville, Iowa on March 23, 1942, the son of J.A. and Ruth (Stevens) Gladfelder.  He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1960.  He was united in marriage to Joyce Lawson on June 2, 1963 in Moulton, Iowa.  To this union, two children were born, James Wesley and Melissa Diane.

Roger held various jobs throughout his lifetime.  He and Joyce owned and operated Gladfelder Produce in Mark, Iowa for a period of time.  He worked for Northeast Power for a good length of time.  One of the main places of employment for Roger was at Young Radiator in Centerville for 25 years.   He also enjoyed working for the Davis County School District in the bus shop as well.

Roger enjoyed coon and deer hunting in his free time.  He was a member of the Monterey Christian Church for over 50 years. 

Left to honor Roger’s memory are his wife of 58 years, Joyce Gladfelder of Centerville; his children, James Wesley Gladfelder of Bloomfield, and Melissa Diane (Terry) Starr of Bloomfield; his grandchildren, Tonya (Zach) Springer, Justin (Autumn) Starr, and Colby Starr; four great grandchildren, Austin Springer, Jamisyn Springer, Bentley Starr, and Gentry Starr; siblings, Sandra (Bill) Walters of Marshalltown, and Karen (Dennis) Westphal of Marshalltown; in-laws, Junior Lawson, John Lawson, Rod Lawson, Linda (Todd) Brun, and Jean Parkins; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, J.A. and Ruth Gladfelder; mother-in-law, Doris V. Lawson; father-in-law, Marvin Lawson; a nephew, Jack McGrann; a nephew-in-law, Mark Garretson; and a brother-in-law, Richard Parris.

Per Roger’s wishes, cremation has been accorded.  There will be a family fellowship gathering at a later date.  Lange Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted to care for the Gladfelder family.  Memorials have been established to either Golden Age Care Center, or EveryStep Hospice, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, C/O Gladfelder family, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.  Condolences may be shared online at
