Rollie Eugene Brown, age 71, of Centerville, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Centerville, Iowa on August 19, 1950, the son of Willard E. and Ethel Alberta (Phelps) Brown. Rollie was born five minutes ahead of his twin brother, Roger.
Rollie enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country faithfully during the Vietnam War with the 17th Calvary 101st Airborne Division. A celebrated soldier, Rollie received numerous awards during his time in Vietnam, including the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device (First Oak Leaf Cluster) and the Purple Heart. He was later honorably discharged from the Army.
Rollie was employed as a coremaker with the Bloomfield Foundry for twenty-five years.
He maintained many passions throughout his lifetime, including riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting, watching war movies and drag racing, wrenching on old cars and tinkering with just about anything he could get his hands on. Most importantly, Rollie loved hanging with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Rollie married Shirley Marie Powders in 1972 and to this union of marriage, two children were born, Kathy and Jason. Although the couple would divorce later in life, they maintained a friendship defined by mutual respect.
Left to honor Rollie’s memory include his three children, Kathy Jean (Danny) Sandberg of Centerville, Iowa, Jason Eugene (Heather) Brown of Centerville, Iowa and Heather Whitney of California; twin brother, Roger (Linda) Brown of Numa, Iowa; his brother Anthony Davis of Bloomfield, Iowa; grandchildren, Kaylee Brown, Remmie Brown, Cassie (Steven) Bair, Cory Clark, Cody (Sydney) Clark, and Matthew Jon Hiatt; great grandchildren, Molly Bair, Olivia Bair, Caleb Bair, and Avery Bair; aunts and uncles including Don (Sharon) Phelps; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rollie was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Ethel Brown; two brothers, Willard “Willie” Brown and Frank Brown; as well as his sister, Jeannie Booth.
According to Rollie’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family of Rollie Brown, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA, 52544.
