Vera Beatrice (Riggle) Purdy, age 93, formerly of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 in her residence in Gahanna, Ohio.

Vera was born on March 14, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Michael and Felicia Dora (Golston) Riggle.  Vera attended public schools in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from high school.  On September 23, 1944, Vera was united in marriage to Donald Richard Purdy at the Drake Avenue Christian Church. Vera was baptized in the Christian church.

Vera and Don lived in Seymour, Iowa until 1952, when they moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where Vera worked as a store clerk.  In 1970, the couple moved to Lawrence, Kansas, and left the city life behind.  They bought and operated a marina and fishing lodge on Leavenworth County State Lake in eastern Kansas.  In 1980, Vera and Don decided it was time to retire.  They sold the marina and fishing lodge, and moved back to Centerville.  The couple had residences in both Texas and Iowa.  In 2011, Don and Vera moved to Ohio for health reasons.

Vera enjoyed camping and fishing, and spent a lot of time on the water.  Vera and Don enjoyed ballroom dancing and square dancing, and were members of a square-dancing club.  She was a handwriting expert, an accomplished lapidarist, and a member of the Lawrence Gem and Mineral Club.  She pursued her hobby as a rock hound in Mexico, Canada, and all over the United States.

Those left to cherish Vera’s memory are her son, Richard Leslie Purdy and his wife, Wilma; grandchildren, Donnie Edward Purdy, Linda Jeanette Purdy, Christina Louise (Purdy) Cutshall and her husband, Ron, and Cynthia Yvonne (Purdy) Hatch Hendricks and her husband, Shawn; her brother, Darl Riggle; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
